ÖLANDS SÖDRA FYR
Ottenby, Öland
Island
Sweden

Another early morning start out of Stockholm and a dark drive down the E4 to Norrköping connecting to E22 south to Kalmar and the bridge over to Öland Island. Turn right on 136 when you get over the bridge and go south to Ottenby. There's a sign at the right turn to the fyr. Ölands Södra Udde is also a bird obervatory and believe me, I was the only one there photographing the lighthouse. I did talk with several of the bird watchers. They were all nice and spoke English very well. When I spoke of my plan to drive up the coast of the island and photograph all the fyr, one gentleman spoke up that he knew the keepers who lived in Segerstad, the next light for me to find. He gave me their names and number, but warned that there had been a lot of flooding due to all the rain. Said they loved having visitors. Talk about a small world.
The fyr is known as Långe Jan, the Long One. It is the tallest light in Sweden. It was built in 1785 according to the date over the door.
Here's how I saw it:
