LIGHTSHIP LV83
Seattle, WA

LV83 is sitting tucked away between two other boats at a marina in Ballard. I could not get a clear shot at either side nor could I go on it. It is to be moved to yet another location for final refurbishing, but from what I saw it needs a lot. Plus the weather was once again, lousy. I've decide to start a company for breaking droughts. Just pay my way to the area or region stricken and tell me to bring my cameras and it WILL rain.
If you pay this one a visit, be sure to ask at the front desk, a little trailer office at the entrance. Politeness goes a long ways towards gaining access to non-public places.
LV83 was built in Camden, NJ in 1904, part of a five boat deal with the New York Shipbuilding company. This is the 2nd oldest surviving lightship with an iron hull in the US. LV83 served off Cape Mendocino at Blunt's reef and eventually as a relief ship. The name now painted on the side is Swiftsure, the Banks at the mouth of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
