EL FARO DE PUNTA LANGOSTA

Punta Langosta is not a very glorious looking lighthouse and has actually been decommissioned. As you can see, the lighthouse stands right next to the main road that goes along the water by the town of San Miguel, the only town on the island. This used to mark the west side of the island near the international piers. There is all sorts of construction going on around the lighthouse and it just may be a centerpiece for the new buildings. The sign to the left of the tower announces the new place and it is from that sign that I got the name Punta Langosta, which means Lobster Point.

 It is closed to the public and there was no information about when it was built. They shut it down last year when they finished the new one just south of this point. There is no longer a light in the lantern room.
