KNOKKE-HEIST LIGHTHOUSE
Knokke-Heist, Belgium

I started out in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, where I was working for a couple of weeks. Den Bosch for short. The weather had been lousy most of the time so I didn't bother getting up at the crack of dawn like I usually do. But then around 9 AM I looked out and saw no rain falling, so I packed up the cameras and laptop, got in my trusty rental car, an Opel Vectra, and took off for Belgium. Getting down to Antwerp was easy enough, all highways and no police. Then a few toll gates and I found myself on the A11 headed west. And look at that, my map shows this going straight to Knokke-Heist. I had seen a photo of this pole with a light on top on a Dutch website, so when I drove by, I recognized it. Parked right on the road and walked up to take a look.
This has got to be the skinniest lighthouse I have ever seen. It has a door as you can see in one of my photo selections and it appears that the pole is hollow, although I can't imagine a spiral staircase inside. I took all my photos, then as I walked back to the car, I looked across this field and saw the real lighthouse that is being restored. I hope my work takes me back over there so I can see it with the lantern room in place and the scaffolding removed.
Here's how I saw it:
