HOEK VAN HOLLAND HOOG
VUURTOREN

Hoek van Holland, Netherlands

Also saw this on my 2nd visit. I drove over from Den Bosch First thing Saturday morning, as I was to meet a coworker from Delft in his home town of Katwijk which was on the west coast north of Den Haag (The Hague). Found the new Hoek v. Holland lights as well as this older one. Hoog is high and Laag is low which are the same as the rear and front range lights we have in the US. West Kapelle also has a pair. Hoek v. Holland Laag has been relocated in Rotterdam at the Maritime Museum. You can go up in this one but not during the middle of the winter as in January. I saw some photos on one Dutch website that showed the people rappelling off the lantern room down the outside of the tower. You can drive right up to this one almost and park right there on the street. There was a little neighborhood barnyard area right beside the vuurtoren. They had some chickens and a rooster and a big pot-bellied pig. Huge thing. Then two little girls walked by on the side walk and had a pet duck following them. Ducks look funny when they try to jog along to keep up.

The new pair of lights at Hoek van Holland is rather modern looking. You can see them by clicking here. New Hoek van Holland

Here's how I saw it:
