HARLINGEN VUURTOREN
Harlingen, Netherlands

After lunch in Den Oever and photographs of the skeleton tower there, I took off across the big dike, known as Afsluitdijk, and drove over to Fryslan and up N31 to the town of Harlingen. It was harder to find the entrance to the town over the canal than it was to find the vuurtoren, which was higher than the rest of the town. Nice big parking lot right before you get to it, but you have to walk down the street just a short distance, 50 feet, to the entrance of Vuurtoren Harlingen a hotel these days.
The lighthouse was built in 1921 and had a white and red light. The tower is around 22 meters and the light is 21 meters. I think it was deactivated in 1998 and turned into a hotel in 1999. The lantern room is capped by a weathervane common to several of the Dutch vuurtoren that I saw. The Neptune figure.
There is a ferry service at Harlingen and you can go over to a couple of the islands which have vuurtoren also. I did not have time to visit.
Here's how I saw it:
